Coastwards: Geikie Gorge

Leaving Bungle Bungles on July 11, we head toward the coast at Derby, a bit over 700 Kms through sparsely populated outback country and remote townships. The endless flat country looks barren but if you stop and look around there is an amazing variety of plant life.
Along the way, the governments well intentioned measures to discourage the outback Aboriginal population from drinking too much alcohol unfortunately proved more effective on us than the locals, who know how to get it despite restricted opening hours.
Stopping overnight at Fitzroy Crossing, we took the opportunity to visit the spectacular Geikie Gorge, taking a boat cruise as the best way to appreciate the magnificence:

Crocs look cute from the safety of a boat :-)

After the boat ride, we went for a bush walk along the banks of the Gorge and Jean took this nice shot - (It's OK, the crocs always stay on the sunny side).
